Niraj
Sorry to hear about the issues you had/have been facing and I can image it’s sensitive to discuss. I have nothing against the Swami you follow; it is entirely you’re choice.
I researched Vivekanand as his name is brought up frequently on debates, views do not correspond, and evidence shows he has reformed Hinduism to westernize it. Previously in debates we found SOME of his work on Mahabharata does not the match the original Holy Scriptures, so it is best to flash out what is genuine and what is not. I have some questions
1. Why didn’t Vivekanand preach Hinduism the way it is?
We haven’t seen the West trying to impress the East by reforming their religions.
2. Why was it so essential to impress the Westerners by reforming Hinduism?
Interesting links I found
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=swami+vivekananda&hl=en&tbs=tl:1&tbo=u&ei=9ivPSrvtFZKC4QbMj9T8Ag&sa=X&oi=timeline_result&ct=title&resnum=19&ved=0CDkQ5wIwEg
States Ramakrishna and Vivekananda were followers of Christianity
3. Niraj, how true is this? If this is true then how can we accept Vivekananda`s as a genuine messenger of Hinduism
http://www.goethals.org/GoethalsNews/gnoct-dec06.htm
“On 24 December 1892, Swami Vivekananda went to Kanyakumari and meditated in Mother Kumari’s temple with the sense of Jesus Consciousness.”
Sanskrit misinterpretations highly emphasised on the debating pages before
http://www.sanskrit.org/www/Sanskrit/sanskrit.htm
“Hinduism has begun to emerge in the West in two significant forms.” “One of the first and most striking examples of the former scenario was Swami Vivekananda’s appearance in Chicago at the Parliament of World Religions in 1896. At the time, Vivekananda received wide coverage in the American press and later in Europe as he travelled to England and other parts of Europe. Along the way he created many followers.”
“Hinduism now developing in the West is being reflected through the lens of Christianity, Judaism and Islam, the theological uniqueness of Hinduism is being compromised or completely lost”
4. Niraj don’t you think religion and the social norms and how people are treated (many social norms are self created by people and not what the religion teaches) are two separate issues? The way a country is operated and the way families practice religion is a different issue.
Niraj please discuss on this page!

Acharya,
The repository of Knowledge of Vedas and Upanishads was communicated from Guru to Shishya. By Smarana, Chintana and Manana, it flowed further.
With very little facility for generating copies of the texts, how this could have been possible?
Kindly throw some light on this.

This is a very good question ., In early part of the creation , Man was given a buddhi , smara chitta etc . smara is memory which was infalliable . there was no defect as everything stored was easily recallable . it was only after the Gautam curse that let memeory lapse and forgetfullness creep in , people started forgeting the teachings . and written storage was neccessary .
We can also explain it this way . servers containing huge disks are storing this data of website and we do not slightly doubt that these may get wiped out [ atleast for decades it wont get wiped out unlless there is physical damage] if human created memories can last decades , it would be foolish to assume God created memories would not last a lifetime , as new disciples come it carries forward and the knowledge is preserved.

Acharya,
Please accept Greetings for Deepavali.
Request you to kindly enlighten us on:
Q1. When Vedic culture started?
Q2. Was Vedic culture present before Lord Narayana passed it on to Brahma? If so, it was present in what form?
Q3. Can we say Vedic culture is not an Organized culture like Christianity. or that there is no hierarchy or single founder?

Posted by chiraan on 16/10/2009 at 16:33
There was no culture before Bramha , so vedic culture startts with bramha . vedas are the mind of the GOD. other than vedic culture started only in dwapara . there too these have been started by deities themselves as evil is not capable of study . then they were slowly categorised as avaidic.

Acharya,
Thoughts and desires a level of conciousness in an individual. Does this conciousness at the time of death, decide about the life in the next birth?
Kindly explain what our scriptures say in this regard.

mind also exists in sukshma deha , so what remains in the mind in suskhma deha determines the next birth , but largely due to sanchita that is about to fructify

Acharya,
As per Sanatana Dharma, Vedas are supreme. In Rig Veda we come across a verse “Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahuda Vadanti”.
If it is said like this in Vedas, then why are there so many interpretations which confound mortals?

Acharya
Q1. In the Vedic literature, what is the difference between, Itihasa and Puraana?
Q2. Death is only for the Body and not for the soul. What ever Saadhana is done is attached to the soul and the soul evolves. So, when the soul leaves the body, how does the benefits of Saadhana carried by the soul?
Lastly, Acharya, this question is persisting in my mind. Sorry if I’ am intruding.
Question: Are you actually taking any physical rest? You are responding to our querries at all times in the day, mostly between midnight and early morning. I have no words to explain your energy levels and commitment. We remain ever grateful to you.

Untouchability
One of the most debatable issues in vedic culture is untouchability .This concepts count for extreme criticism and bolsters conversions into other faith .
What is untouchability ? Does it really exists and is it sanctioned in vedas?
Untouchability as it is practised in most parts of India is prohibiting certain section sof society into the social fabric . relegating them to exteiors of civilization . Not accepting anything from those and not inviting them into houses , Disallowing them into the temples and religious congregation.
The untouchabilty leads to torture and exploitation of the weaker section of the society .
these conclusions forced various measures by social sceintists and what we see is a changed society and its norm in urban and double standards into rural lifestyles.
The untouchability as it is practised in villages and northern iNDIA IS NOT A RELIGIOUS SANCTION .
If certain people were untouchables , VIDURA would not have been born in MAHABHARATA.
Mahanandi would not have ruled magadh.
What is untouchability in vedic culture is once the person is in deeksha he does not touch anyone to preserve his aura . He does ot even touch his own parts o the body again and again .
As the sadhana spiritual increases the person is in nitya deeksha , as he takes bath and is in pooja room everyone else is untouchable for him .
In other parts of the day , he is regular work but his increased aura [ owing to increase in chakra energy [ risen chakra ] he is essentialy a diffrent person than normal non yogic people ,.
EVERY INTERCATION between two people involves interaction at physical stratum ie speech , thought and action at the sme time there is interaction with astral stratum as well .
When people of two different chakra levels interact there is profuse give nd take into energy . the higher chyakra energy person donates his energy and lower chakra person is energised , at the same time if he is impure , his energised chakra causes severe [ shaktipata ] instability , on the whole its a loss to the higher enrgised person and lower one has got no gain . the entire interaction is fruitless exercise .
Thus higher chakra people do ot interact with others owing to fear of loss of energy [ tapas shakti]
BUT ALL this is relevant only when a person is in everyogic state . nowa days when hardly anyone is engaged in intense yogaabhyasa and dev pooja . such concepts do not hold any meaning .
today we freely move in vehicles with all the types of the people . and chakra levels of all the people are at the same stratum .
BUt what have we achieved by such a free interactive society .
YEars together [ say thousands of years of practise] when people were prohibited from using rivers and tanks and water bodies , these bodies were clean and full and usable .
Its been only a fifty years since all the water bodies rivers were thown open for all the sections of society , result all the water bodies are polluted unusable and dry .
today we are in such a situation that we do not have rivers to take aholy bath . what was preserved for thousands of years how come we lost it in 50 years . is it phenomenon or truth of pollution .
Temples were sacred , contained lot of mahima, it had a mysterious stories asssociated with the sanctity of temple god .1000s of years stood testimony to it .
50 years since temples have been thrown open to all , temples have become a commercial entity , even terrorists can blow up a temple yet temple God does not respond . So final a call will be given , Does really God exists in Temple . So what if archaka is not a bramhin . does GOD accepts the naivedya .
Why did VIDURAoffer only FRUITS TO KRISHNA when he went to his house . If there was something like untouchability KRISHNA would not have gone to VIDURA.
BUt iF he had GONE, did it entitle VIDURA to cook and serve but instead he offered only fruits , Neither did shabari give cooked rice to athithi RAM but only fruits .
WAS GOD in hurry to not wait till rice is cooked in the house or was it the vedic dictum cooked food is not acceptable in others house .
Why did the vidur not study vedas but only neeti though born to GOD and yet retained as minister . As these had attained high status yet they did not transcend dharma and dictums of veda .
So is untouchability a norm !
When flus like swine etc takes a lethal form WHO issues a dictum not to touch each other not to shake hands , people with diseases should not share blades , tooth brush , and lo new dictum is playing football without sheen guards is also dangers as bruised skin touches each other blood contact may give AIDS ,. Shaving is a big NO in barbers shop . what if out of ignorance barber uses same blade for two heads and cheek .
This week is hand washing day . was hands after every touch . [ well bath after touching someone is untouchability] BUt had washing day is directive and scientific at that .
In US shaking hands may signal a gay behaviour ., slowly embacing may be suspicious too . BUt simple namaste , or ashirvad was too old fashioned or perhaps untouchability .
using different sections of waters is not hygiene but untouchability . sharing same food is not unhygeinic but gandhian in principle . [ so much so a pontiff of the popular mutt was forced to eat in the line of weaker sections cooked by them ] perhaps people forgot PONTIFFS have freedom of taste . Why if pontiffs’ eating could have signalled the feeling of oneness , so onemust eat non veg food when in company of those meat eaters else onenness is disturbed , or perhaps its non Veg untouchability .
Principles of food habbits and personal hygiene cannot be termed as untouchability .yes attrocities in the name of untouchability and by those who have no credentials is definitely untouchability and stigma . But thats a social problem and not a religious , reigion preaches kshama daya and dana . so looking after weaker sections with compassion is must but not at the compromise of aura .compromise of concept .

Posted by chiraan on 22/10/2009 at 07:53
hamsa mantra is ajapajap
Posted by veenapranav on 22/10/2009 at 04:11
Dear Hari,
Ajapa means “total awareness”. Ajapa is the practice of Japa,
concentrating and developing awareness with the least effort. Ajapa is an exercise in yoga that can be mastered through intense, personal concentration and focusing on mental exercise.
If one does japa very effectively but by putting least effort it is called ajapa.
This is achieved by practice. Our Yatis do this kind of japa.
Posted by chiraan on 23/10/2009 at 01:08
In every human being , Mukhyaprana does the japa of hamsa mantra for 21600 a day . Thus in the early morning when any dwija , makes the sankalpa of doing this swas rupi japa along with mukhyaprana , gets the phala of 21600 japa without actually doing it but just by breathing . Thus it is ajapajap .

In one of the replies to a reader, you mentioned about UDAAN VAAYU. Is it different from the one of the ashta siddhi (ANIMA, MAHIMA, LAGHIMA, GARIMA …) which was displayed by Acharya Madhwa?

Posted by chiraan on 24/10/2009 at 09:38
Ashta mahasiddhi comes under Aishvarya udaan vayu siddhi is just a small siddhi however sumadhva vijay says when robbers were after team of Acharya , everyone became still as stone .robbers mistaking them for sculputures went away . Narayan Panditacharya says[ Patanjali] this is possible by bringing Prana into kantha sthana . as long as prana merges in the kantha the body is immovable .
this is just one of the siddhis By concentrating on the nabhi mandal [ ie bringing Prana into samana } one can understand entire constitution of the body [ nadi sandhi harikathamrutasara] . This way there are thousands of sidhdhis and vary in degree .

Posted by chiraan on 02/11/2009 at 14:56
Bhojana is naivedya to the lord residing in us. The bhojana should be only that food which is acceptable as naivedya . Only hariprasad should be eaten , ie the food which has been offered to the lord shoud be consumed rest is all rakshas bhojan.
Bhojan should have been prepared on red flame only not blue flame . preferably on wood fire . The agni should be sanskrutagni and then paka should be as per the vyasa paakashastra. The use of surabhi mantra will make it more tasty . The food should be offered as naivedya to the lord with tulasi on it .and shadakshari mantra will purify it , dwadash stotra will keep poisons away . After offerig to Lord the same should be offered to Rama adi , and all gurus . Then to vaiswadevata , and some portion should given to Bhuta and pisachas in the south west corner of the house . then if any atithi comes by he should be served to the fullest .
Then the family memebers should be given food with younger members feeding first . when all the people have eaten . some food should be kept for pashu pakshi in the vicinity and then one must have food for himself . The food should be taken always sitting down on the earth . One should have uttariya vatsra , one should offer food to the manes and then after paryavekshan and parisechana , take one tualsi in mouth , two in the ears , one on head , one in navel ,five tulasi on the food ,the five morsel be given to panch prana inside the body , after taking teertha with two tulasi , ‘amruto taranamasi…….’ one can have food silently . and after food is taken to the full one can have teertha with two tulasi . Then with palm on the stomach remember, agastya , bheemasen and anala and chant ashtakshar 108 .

According to Puranas , Earth does not rotate is fixed and it SUN which rotates around the MERU on mansottari PARVAT in Pushkar dweep . More TO FOLLOW IN THE NEXT POST BHUGOLA VARNAN. ANY INITIALTHOUGHTS before we begin ?
For 400 years we have been made to believe earth rotates and is suspended in space ! How if suddenly we confront the truth that earth is not revolving nor rotating >? Isn’t it a tight slap onto science . Because Science took centre stage in human life with a statement ” Arey BHAI INSAAN CHAND PAR PAHUCH GAYA” …………………..
If we earth were suspended into space . why do we not have a file shot of earth from below ie southpole upside down ?
why could a satellite not travel downwards into the space ?
if earth were revolving why oceans dont spill over
Why do satellites not have anti orbits non concentric with motion of earth .
Why do even geo stationary satellites suffer eclipse ?
why there has never been a second landing on moon till date ever since 60’s , has technological advancement retarded or there is no second person available with guts like neil armstrong .
Or budget to land on moon is any less . or there aren’t martyrs in the name of science ?
Does it take another 50 years to land on moon . ?
why should the launches happen from French guiana ?
IS space right above our head ,?

Acharya,
In various posts you have mentioned that Lord executes his sankalpa through Vaayu. One aspect of execution is slaying evil. In this Lord himself makes Avataras or gets it done by Vaayu. In this context, why Rudra is called as the destroyer among the trinity.
Request you to elaborate.
Humble Regards
Hari
Posted by chiraan on 07/11/2009 at 21:18
sankarshana as present in Rudra is laya karta , laya is merging of lower bodies into higher bodies , it is wrong to term that as destroyer . srishti sthithi laya . srishti is through brahma , laya is through rudra and in stithi , lord himself engages directly yet Vayu is chief instrument . even when killing in avataras weapons that kill are Vayu .
maintenance of creation means directing the flow of souls towards its goal , this vayu does all by himself , ie taking each soul good or bad and working on its karma according to ts capacity is what vayu does without expecting anything in return ,. This is the hiegth of good that a man can expect from God through vayu . Thus vayu is most good soul [jeevottama]

“The best time to perform this Sandhyavandan is during cusp period, either 5 times a day or 3 times a day.
If one does the Sandhyavandan, in 14 years one can get attuned to Brahmgyan. Other benefit which comes to us by doing Sandyavandan is washing off our sins of previous births and to lead a meaningful, fruitful and blissful enlightened life. In other words, to get divinized. Nowadays, the new generation is running along with the time or thinking ahead of the time. This will lead them nowhere, except for creating a desire of unbound success, which if not achieved would be disastrous for their lives. They don’t find time to understand the need for Sandhyavandan and other related rituals connected with it. To win over the time, one has to enter into the time. To enter into the time, one must understand the time. To understand the time, one has to be with the time. And to be with the time, one has to synchronize one’s breath with the time. In simpler words, we perform Pranayam and Japa i.e. chanting of divine Mantras either given by the Masters (enlightened ones) or Mantras which praises the Celestial Beings.
All our actions come from our thoughts. And our thoughts are influenced by the movements of the planets which are close to earth. So performing Sandhyavandan and thus praising the Celestial Beings makes one with pure thoughts and pure actions. In other words, one performs good deeds.
There is no use of doing Sandhyavandan if a person has unclean body and bad thoughts. Hence it is very important that cleanliness of the body and the mind be given utmost importance.
Sandhyavandan purifies the inner body and the soul and increases the inner power and robust mental health which ultimately allows one to concentrate onto the Divine. Pranayama will improve the health and increase the lifespan by keeping the body balanced. A person who performs Sandhyavandan regularly shows more love and affection to fellow human beings.”

Other research on the net shows most prayers are offered to Mother Gayatri, and chanting Gayatri Mantra, however I thought you cannot chant mantras.
I know the following isn’t a genuine source of information, but perhaps you can review and tell us the right and wrong.

More info I found
http://www.mypurohith.com/Rituals/Sandhyavandanam.asp

The info found on the internet is not consistent on how to perform “Sandhyavandan”.

Well according to what is told in our house to all the boys after their Brhamopadesham that sandya vandan is to be done by all Brahmans .
After Brhamopadesham they have to wear the Janev on left shoulder sacred thread and than they shave heir head and it marks rebirth for study of scriptures
It is basically done to seek blessing and strength from Lord. and it has to be done in purified way there is Trikala sandya vandan. the morning one is Pratah sandya where one has bath and than perform it the other two Madhyanika and Sandya sandyvandan is done in the afternoon and noon where one has to wash feet and leg and than pray. But i have seen people in our house do it only once if they ever do it .
Sit in a clean place near the gods Mantap usually facing north.
Well than we need 2 glasses with a spoon and 1 filled with water the other empty. than they have the mudras metallic stamp is mixed with Gopichand and than put the Gopichand with the mudra on the body.they usualy put on their forhead on either side.. two on abdomen two on the chest neck and shoulder.usually begin with the forehead than the right side of the body from abdomen chest neck shoulder and than left side and simultanously say mantra.
than , the mudras are of vertical line shape than heart shape and two are like deepas. after applying wth gopichand they have to put the mudra in a set of series like chkara mudra ,shankha mudra ,gadaa mudhra ,padma mudra and narayan mudra.. there is a sequence of applying these ..
Than they spill water on their body and to purify them and around them to purify them. than sip the teertha from the glass three times.
Than wash each palm one after other touch. touch upper and lower lips than right and left cheek wash hands.than touch feet.than center of head with middle finger as lord resides there..(Paramathma ).than touch nose with middle finger in the center than left and right side of nose with index and thumb finger as it resembles Vayu.touch eye middle finger as it is Sun God.touch ear with all 4 fingers Indra.. touch navel with small finger Narayan resides there.heart with palm again Narayana resides here.touch head with hand than touch right and left shoulder (Prajapati).when doing this we have to rember the God in their respectful positions. Than they say the Gayatri mantra ..this is said to remove your sins of previous birth and even of this birth. usually recite it 108 times or three times. and when doing this whole act they must be in peace and concentrating on their action
Well that’s all i know and i have seen all the boys in my house doing and i don’t know if they are doing the right way or wrong and what all addition and deletion are there.
Perhaps you can tell us the right way and i can everyone who does it to follow it the right way.
These days boys don’t do it as they say no time and they cant have the mudras when they go college and seldom married men do it too and i have not seen them doing the pranayam part as sonu mentioned..perhaps they lack the right technique..
And Gayatri mnatra is chanted by everyone here..even ladies chant as it is told that the rushi munis compelled all the vedas and made this manta in its purist form ..and other say that Sage Vishwamitra was a Kshatriya first and than he became a Brahmin by chanting Gayatri mantra so this is considered the highest mantra.
And ladies can say it as before the boy was send for studies of the scripture and veda the mother was with the child so she has know to inculcate these habits of the mantra to the child and hence she must also know the mantra.she is the child’s first teacher and s she must know the significance of mantra and tell the child about it
Well this is all i know and Guruji can enlighten us more on it and tell us the right thing!!

Chiraanji,
These are some of the points that I am aware of Sandhyavandanam – reading and hearing from multiple sources – please let me know if these are correct or i have understood wrongly
- Gayathri Mantra is the single most essence of doing this Sandhyavandanam. this mantra is most signficant since it contains the essence of all the vedas.Although this mantra is readily available with a lot of commercial CDs today in the market, this should not be recited by ladies and persons who had not been initiated into this through a brahmoupadesh…
- if we do the sandhyavandanam, we do not get any punya since it is part of duty to do this (do we get a bonus if we work and deliver the minimum results of what is expected out of us in our office??? No.) on the other hand, if we do not perform this, we get a lot of sins that we will find it difficult to wash off in multiple janmas.
- one of the important things that is done during sandhyavandanam is to offer arkyam by reciting the 12 most famous names of Sri hari: sri kesavam darpayami, narayanam darpayami etc. each of these water darpams that is offered with this mantra is believed to become a vajrayuda to help the devas fight the asuras constantly….
- this should be ideally done three times in a day. the perfect times are: either 48 minutes before or after the sunrise for the morning sandhyavandanam, either 48 minutes before or after noon for the maadhyanikam, either 48 minutes or after the sunset for the saayankala sandhyavandanam. But if we are so busy not to be able to do it three different times of the day, there is a prayaschitta available to do in the morning itself for all the three times of the day.
- it is required not to say the gayathri mantra in such a way that it is heard to others while doing sandya vandanam. if we recite this mantra without moving our lips, then it is considered as uttamam, if we recite this mantra with movement of our lips, it is considered as mathyamam and god forbid if we telll this out loudly, then it is considered as neecham..
- it is required to also number the amount of gayathri mantra recently in a very confidential closed manner by closing both your hands with your angavastra cloth preferably. the left hand is used to count the tens of how much mantra you have already completed and the right hand is used to count the unit places of how much mantra you have already completed. All the three parts of each finger should be touched for this counting – Interestingly, acupressure science has proven that touching each of the three parts of each finger in a soft manner helps in relieving stress in various parts of the body – thereby going to show the medicinal value of performing this gayathri mantra in the prescribed manner
- Like all our spiritual or material day-to-day acts, it is required to say from our hearts ‘krishnarpanamastu’ after completing the activity and prostrating before Sri hari.

This is improvised , still looking forward to details from learned and scholars regarding kriya

I would like to comment on the statement
” if we do the sandhyavandanam, we do not get any punya since it is part of duty to do this (do we get a bonus if we work and deliver the minimum results of what is expected out of us in our office??? No.) on the other hand, if we do not perform this, we get a lot of sins that we will find it difficult to wash off in multiple janmas.”
We get tremendous punya if we do Sandhyavandana, each and every time you do it, you can be sure that Laxmi Narayana are taking care of you. With each and every ritual and mantra japa you can feel the closeness and the warmth of their grace and protection. With each argya and Gayatri mantra japa Sri Laxmi Narayana are burning away mountains of sins.
The example is flawed. If your do your prescribed office duties duly and properly, firstly you get salary. Secondly if you are consistent and your able to build on it you get promotions and recommendations. Thirdly you are an example to others. Fourthly you get awards for efficiency and punctuality. Finally if you do your work enthusiastically and efficiently you will definetly get bonuses right ?
Raghavendra Swami is a great example of the power of Sandhyavandana, his tejas and varchas just multiplied a thousand fold when he started Sandhyavandana and he sincerely considered Sri Laxmi Narayana as his mother and father and hence never felt like an orphan.
Whenever Shastra recommends something, you can be sure that there is tremendous punya involved, so please don’t make statements like “if we do the sandhyavandanam, we do not get any punya ”
I apologize for objecting, but the attitude of that statement makes Sandhyavandana seem very casual when it is so not.
Posted by chiraan on 13/11/2009 at 02:49
I think the purport of the statement was to emphasize the fact that there are three types of karma 1 .nitya 2.naimittika 3.kamya
Nitya karma should be done if not done gives sins , naimittika karma if done gives punya only when done at appropriate time and not at other times . kamya can be done when desired . gives punya but does not give sin if not done .
Sadhyavandane comes under nitya karma like snana .
Yes Sandhayavandanam is important tool to burn the sins performed during day noon and night . The sins on the same day gets destroyed if 10 gayatri is chanted , the sins committed in previous birth and this birth gets destroyed if chanted 100 times [janmantar papa] . sins done in previous yugas gets destroyed if chanted for 1000 times [ yugantar papa] This gives clue to important point that every day second we reap karmas done in previous birth , and previous birth in previous yuga as well .
Thus if sandhya is done everyday , you dont reap sanchita akasmik graharupi karma . It avoids many mishaps on a given day . But prarabdha remains .

Acharya,
My points are related to preparation for the Sandhyavandane. Most of the points are courtesy to Sri Sreeshacharya, Jayatirtha Vidyapeetha)
Foremost need
A) Absolute surrender to Lord and desire (Icche) to perform Sandhya vandane. No use if performed under force or duress.
B) Pronouncing the mantras with understanding and clarity is essential for the Anusandhana.
C) MUST be wearing yagnopaveeta
Bahya shuddi (Healthy mind in a healthy body): Do we accept anything if it is stale, soiled, dirty, smelly etc. NO. Hence the need for Bahya shuddhi.
1. To take bath (wash from head down to feet) and start for Pratah sandhya. Only in case of Mala visarjana take bath for Sandhya in afternoon and evening. If you have shaved, head bath is compulsory.
2. Wear clean clothes, to be below knee level (Dhotra with Pancha Kacche and Anga vastra). These clothes should be separate set and not to be worn either while eating or as daily wear.
3. Clothes should not be torn, soiled.
4. Use fresh water every time. Clean water which is stored within 3 days can be used.
5. Water should not be hot or warm or salty. The source of water should not have slit earth while emerging.
6. Water which has touched earth should not be collected and used for Sandhyavandane (stagnant water, not to be related with river water since it is flowing). NEVER use water mixed with external contents ex: sharbat
7. He should sit facing east (preferred at least for achamana) or north.
8. He should sit on a mat made of Kusha grass (Darbha)
9. He
a) should control his emotions
b) should not be standing or walking around
c) should not talk (not even talking in between)
d) should not be looking around
e) should not indulge in observing different parts of his body
f) should not touch parts of the body below navel
g) should not be sitting on steps
h) shikha should be tied
i) should not wear/tie cloth to head
j) should sit cross legged and not stretch legs.
10. Items needed
a) Tumbler, bowl and spoon for Achamana (Arghya Patre, Uddharane)
b) Gopichandana (preferable natural form i.e like a small stone not the ones rolled as a cylinder)
c) Mudra ( Shankha, Chakra, Gadha, Padma and Narayana) placed in a container (sampushta). Mudra should not be placed directly on earth, during or after performing Sandhya vandane.
d) Mat made of Kusha Grass
e) Japa haara (Made of Tulasi beads 54 or 108) to help maintain a count.
f) Panchanga to identify the tithi
11. The place where one should perform Sandhya vandane should be not be too cold or too hot, should not be windy, the ground should not froth, should not be touched by others while involved in the kriya.
12. Achamana:
Achamana is done to purify oneself before the start of any kriya.
Achamana does not mean sipping water (Aaposhana) three times.
Should not sip three times from the same water i.e take three separate spoon full of water and sip.
Sipping water three times will please Vishnu, Bramha and Rudra (Truptha).
It starts with Keshavayah swaha upto sree krishnaya namah.
Ganga and Yamuna recide in the palms. Washing the hands will please them.
Touching nose will make the Ashwini devatas happy.
Touching eyes will make sun and moon happy.
Touching ears will make Anila-Anala devatas (Vaayu-Agni) happy
Touching shoulders will make happy the Parvatabhimani devatas
Touching the navel (Nabhi) will please Naga devata
Touching heart will please Saravasura samooha
Touching the head, the most important organ will please Puroshottama
Finally when offer jala(water) to earth with Govindaya namaha, it pleases Vasuki and all the serpents.
Achamana will not result if offered without wearing yagnopaveeta or paada prakshalya or by touching feet
13. While performing Gayatri Japa:
While performing Pratah Sandhya
before sunrise: Japa to be done by standing up.
after sunrise: Japa to be done sitting. Hold the left hand above the navel to prevent the haara from touching parts below navel.
Japa haara to be covered and Japa to be done wihout moving lips (Uttama).

Sir,
In your brahma jignyasa blog you said “Mahabharata is the explanation of Gayatri” i think this is so far the finest statement in your blog. you said that you would post many articles on this topic please do comment on this too.
in your blog on mantras you said that the word mantra itself means secrecy. one accumulates sins if he is careless with mantras i.e by not keeping them secret. and today you find CDs of mother of all mantras GAYATRI !!!! i have no example of transgression worse than this!!!!
when Sri Vadirajaru was chanting the aakhyana in sesacharya’s ears he asked him to first get an earring bcoz the mantra was so unique!!! then what to say of Gayatri mantra ??
i’ve also heard that a person must have urdhva pundhra dharana to recite the gayatri. then tell me how come women can recite it?????
Sri Madhvesharpana.

LETS US BEGIN WITH THE LITERALS
WHAT IS MEANING OF THE WORD ‘SANDHYA’?
Posted by Hariprasad Alur on 11/11/2009 at 11:02
Acharya,
Sandhya = Junction
Refering to the context, the junction or transitory time zone of Night-Day, Morning-Afternoon and Day-Night during the transit of sun is SANDHYA.
These junctions are considered to be sacred for offering oblations to SUN God.
Oblations to Sun during Pratah Sandhya is for Spiritual enhancement
Oblations to Sun during Madhya ahnika is for Longetivity
Oblations to Sun during Sayam Sandhya is to Thank Lord Suryanarayana for bestowing his benevolent grace for the day.
Performing trikala Sandhya removes the sins accrued during the preceding portion.

Acharya,
With my minimal knowledge, I put forth these points on Urdhwapundra Dharana.
The Sandhyavandana (Pratah Sandhya) kriya starts with the application of Naama and Mudra of specific shape on specific position on the body from parts above the trunk/waist level upto the head. These are applied from trunk up to head, symbolizing the act as one of spiritual up liftment.
Take a spoon full (Uddharane) of water (Nirmalya) on your left palm and a piece of Gopichandana.
Rub the gopichandana and prepare a paste.
Start applying the Naama in the order as mentioned below parallely recite the dwadasha naama(name). The general shape other than specified will be deepakara, like the flame of a candle.
a) One vertical naama starting from the point between the eyebrow to the top of the fore head (Keshavaya Namaha). First apply the paste and then run through using a moist cloth or finger to generate parallel lines
b) One vertical naama at Centre of abodomen, start above the navel(Nabhi) and end slightly below the junction of rib cage (Narayanaya Namaha)
c) One circular mark on the chest, heart shaped (Maadhavaya namaha)
d) A mark on the front of the neck(Kanta) (Govindaya namaha)
e) Vertical naama on the right side of the abdomen (Vishnave namaha)
f) Vertical naama on the left side of chest, above the nipple
g) Vertical naama on the right shoulder, leaf shape (Madhusudanaya namaha)
h) A mark on the right side of the neck (Trivikramaya namaha)
i) Vertical naama on the left side of the abdomen (Vaamanaya namaha)
j) Vertical naama on left shoulder, leaf shape (Shridharaya namaha)
k) A mark on the left side of the neck (Hrishikeshaya namaha)
l) A mark on the back bone above the trunk (Padmanabhaya namaha)
m) A circular mark on the left side of the chest above the heart (Srivatsaya namaha).
After applying the naama, the Mudra are applied.
Chakra Mudra:
One on right side of the eye, five on center of abdomen, three on heart, two on right abdomen, two on right shoulder on both sides of the naama, two on right of neck, one on front of neck, one on left shoulder below the naama.
Shankha Mudra:
One on left side of the eye, one on the left abdomen, two on left of the chest, twon on the left shoulder on both sides of the naama, two on left of the neck, on the right shoulder below the naama.
Gadha Mudra:
One on forehead, one on left abdomen, one on left of chest, two on left shoulder on both sides of the naama below the shankha mudra.
Padma Mudra:
Two on chest, two on right abdomen, two on right shoulder on both sides of the naama below the chakra mudra.
Naarayana Mudra:
One each overlapping on all the Naama and Mudra.
The application of Naama and Mudra can vary slightly according to the Sampradaya or Guru Matha of the person.

The motivation for Sandhayavandam is Shri Hari preeti and Shri Hari Prernaya.
Sandhya vandanam – means a prayer to Surya Mandala madhya Sri Laxmi Narayana
Sandhyavandam is a daily ritual to be done 3 times a day, during sunrise, noon and sunset.
If done with love and dedication, it probably the only prayer that needs to be said and can give all types of results.
The Surya Mandala madhya Sri Laxmi Narayana is called Savitur.
Importance:
If a dwija does not do Sandhyavandane all other Sadhane is considered ineffective. It is the hall ticket to the exam, you can’t enter the exam hall without hall ticket irrespective of how much you have read at
home.
There are many instances in the shastra where Surya Mandala madhya Sri Laxmi Narayana is invoked for example
a. Aditya Hridayam
b. Akshaya Patre for Yudishtira during vanvas
Giving argya to surya and doing Gayatri Japa with the above context gives all the results as described above and many more.
Surya gives health, wealth, fame, etc when give argya regularly.
Brief Steps
0. Mudradharana – Applying Gopichanda and mudra dharana
1. Achamana – Drinking a small quantity of water (equal to size of urad dal)
Lubricates the entire food pipe and cleans it – Remembering the 24 names of Shri Hari in the process of creation
The visualization for each name is cross referenced with Keshava Nama from Kanaka Dasa. It’s in Kannada, the english meanings can be referenced here
http://www.dvaita.org/haridasa/song/2/040T.html
There is also a visulazation in TantraSara for each name which is Lord Vishnu with four arms, holding the conch, the discus, the mace and the lotus. The positions of the four vary according to the roopa.
( Sip water three times chanting each of the following )
Om keshavaya svaha [ Shreesha Keshava - Dosha rashi nasha,
Katru Keshava - Satya patisuvodhu,
Adi Keshava - Mukti koduva ]
Om naarayana svaha [ Naarayana - Maran samaydalli Hari Smaraane; Ajamila ]
Om maadavaya svaha [ Madhava - Yamana bhada bidisu through Gyana]
( Wash hand with this )
Om govindaya namaha [ Govinda - Bahavada Bandha Bidisu ]
Om vishvanenamaha [ Vishnu - Srishti ollege kashta bidisu ]
Om madhusudhanayanamaha [ Madhusudana - Hridaya dalli hudagisaya ]
Om trivikramayanamaha [Trivikrama - Yamana bhada bidisu by destroying papa]
Om vaamanayanamaha [Vamana - Ninna Nama premadinda paadiso ]
Om sridharayanamaha [Shridhara - hrudayalli sadan maado ]
Om hrishikeshayanamaha [ Hrishikesha - do not neglect me, thinking I'm interested in mundane pleasures ]
Om padmanabhayanamaha [Padmanabha - Geddu Kopa, Buddhi Toru ]
Om damodarayanamaha [ Damodara - Ninna Nama jivha dalli niliso ]
Om sankarshanayamaha [ Sankarashana - Nanna kinkara aagi maadkolo ]
Om vaasudevayanamaha [ Vaasudeva - Please ensure no hurt comes to me, as I'm your servant no matter what birth I take ]
Om pradhyumnayanamaha [ Pradyumane - Hridaya Tiddi Shudda maadu ]
Om anirudhayanamaha [ Annirudhane - Yennage mukti palisu ]
Om purushothamayanamaha [ Purushottamma - Ninna charandalli iddu ]
Om adhokshajayanamaha [ Adokshaja - Beda maadi noddadiro ]
Om narasimhayanamaha [ Narasimhana - Baara haakiruve ninage ]
Om achuttayanamaha [ Achyuta - Sanchita paapa, kinchita peeda kallisu ]
Om janardanayanamaha [ Janardhana - heena buddhi bidisu ]
Om upendrayanamaha [ Upendra - Krupe maadi kshamiso ]
Om hareyanamaha [ Shri Hare - Nanna ninna bhakatara jyotege iddu ]
Om srikrishnayanamaha [ Shri Krishna - Innu huttisibeda, huttisidake nammana palisu ]
2. Pranayama – Takes in pure air and lets out impure air
Gets us the control of the entire body – Dasha Pranava Gayatri Mantra
* Achamane and Pranayama are repeated many times, not mentioned here for brevity.
3. Sankalpa – Recollecting the date, time and place in which the activity is being performed
Develops the willpower required for a successful mindset
4. Marjana – Sprinkling of water on one’s body
Completes the bathing ritual with the mantras
5. Jalabhimantrana – Drinking the sacred water
Purification of the body – This mantra varies slightly for morning, afternoon and evening. It asks for forgiveness for the paapa for the previous time period. For example morning Sandhyavandane asks for forgiveness for the paapa ( if any ) during night time.
6. Punarmarjana – Sprinkling of water on one’s body
Re-cleaning the body
7. Suryarghya – Offering the sacred water to Lord Narayana residing in the sun god
Solar energy is recognized as having enormous powers in purification, ripening of fruits, medicinal powers in curing skin and other related diseases.
8. Bhoototchatanam – Drive away bad elements from disturbing our concentration
9. Nyasa
9a. Karan Nyasa – Placing Bhagvad roopas Using Fingers
9b. Anagan Nyasa – Placing Bhagvad roopas all over the body
10 . Dhyana Shlokas –
Dhyana murthy of gayathri is Vishnu [ surya antargata Narayana ] with two hands resting on knees sested on a throne with Bhu and Sri ] shankh chkra gada padma . surrounding the murthy is ashta narayana murthy of , vishwa taijas , pragnya turiya , atma , antaratma , gnyanatma and paramatma . lord has kaustubh mani , har , kirit , kundal [ makar] radiant as 1000 crores of sun , there is srivasta chinha on his chest. you must do sandhyavandane with this dhyana
11. Japa – Repetition of the Gayatri Mantra 10/100 /1000 or more no. of times and reciting the Narayana mantra three times the no. of times one has recited the Gayatri mantra
Sharpens the mind, leads to clear and sharp thinking, memory and leads to personal upliftment.
We can go on and on and on about the Gayatri mantra, but Chiraanavre must start
13 . Narayana Ashtakshara Mantra – This is done 3 * ( no of Gayatri Mantra ) for Siddhi
This is mentioned in Sadachara Smruti of Srimadacharya
14. Dignamskara – Prayer to the presiding deities of all the directions
To get protection and success in all the 10 directions
15. Durga Mantra & Vishnu Mantras
16. Krishnarpana – Offering the actions at the feet of Lord Krishna
This completes the activity and gives it all the relevance. An action which is not offered on the feet of the Lord is useless and meaning less
17. Namatraya Japa – For any faults or shortcomings – Achyuta , Ananta and Govinda names are chanted three times – This can be followed for all worship
To reiterate everything is for Shri Hari Preeti and is possible because of Shri Hari Prerna as stated each time in the sankalpa.

Sandhya Vandanam Procedure
With Summary Meaning
Introduction
Sandhya Vandanam literally means either “Salutation to the goddess of Dawn and dusk or” the prayers done during dawn and dusk.” Hindus considered the period just before dawn and just after dusk as well as the exact period of noon , as extremely suitable for meditation. All Brahmins after Upanayanam (prescribed to be done at the age of seven), were required to do these prayers without fail. Essentially these prayers are offering oblations to the devas (arghya pradanam), doing breathing exercises (pranayamam) and then meditating on Gayathri by chanting the king of all manthras “Gayathri”. This Manthra is taught to every boy by his own father during the ceremony of brahmopadesam. After learning Gayathri every boy is supposed to have taken a second birth and is entitled to be called “Dwija”.
Our scriptures attach lot of importance to Sandhya vandanam .They prescribe that a dwija should do it without fail every day, They also say that the knowledgeable Brahmin who salutes the Sun god daily thrice would attain whatever he wants. They further say that one who does not do sandhyavandanam is a sinner and is not eligible for any Vedic duties.
Posted by Viju Rao on 12/11/2009 at 02:10
Vedic mantras must be recited with great accuracy considering the phonetics, pauses and intonations namely ranga, udatta, anudatta and svara. but such perfection cannot be achieved by all as they require serious practice and guidance from a proper guru. it is said that vedic hymns if not recited perfectly wont give results. so its best to chant the mantra “agnimile purohitam” from Rg Veda before gayatri. thats bcoz Agni antaryami Parashurama burns all such mistakes committed by us while chanting mantras.
secondly before sandhyavandane it is necessary that we must be clean by mind and body. body externally is cleansed by snana but what about antarang shuddhi which is more stressed in shastras?
for this purpose it is advised that we must meditate on the 72000 prime nadis in our body. in each nadi reside abhimani devtas of sacred rivers and tirthas. in nadi prakaran sandhi of HariKathaAmrita sri dasaru says that even thinking of these nadis will purify us. so this is the first thing one must do after snana. this process is also known as dhyana snana.
the next thing necessary is tapta mudra and urdhva pundra dharana. sri alur has already said where and how to apply it. now i would like to elaborate the fact that WHY should we apply it.
The UrdhvapunDras represents the adhyAtmika sAdhane of an individual. The symbols displayed on the body represent the flow of energy inside (As quoted by Sri Vishnu thIrtha: “brahmanAdi kramENa tu”). It’s a symbol (and a physical act as well) of the ascent of kunDalIni energy from the mUlAdhAra to the sahasrAra. The 12 punDras applied have the following significance:
1. Three on the stomach: Rise of kunDalini shakti through 3 nAdis, iDA, pingaLa and sushumna.
2. Lotus shaped one on the Chest: The expansion of the hridya kamala
3. Four on the neck: Rise of kunDalini shakti from anAhata to vishuddhi chakra.
4. Two on the arms: To direct the constant flow of prANa shakti that flows from our hands.
5. One on the forehead: Rise of kunDalini shakti from Ajna chakra to sahasrAra
6. One on the lower back: To kindle the kunDalini at its source in mUlAdhAra.
The awakening of kundalini is required to gain aproksha gyana.
“yajna, dAna, tapas, hOma, vEdAdhyayana and pitr^utarpaNa done without the UrdhvapunDras is absolutely useless” says our Acharya in krishnamruta maharnava.
Sri Madhvesharpana.

Sandhya means , cusp periods between
night -day
day-night
morning afternoon
sandhya is the time when learned make contemplation of lOrd .
the time is jada [ non sentient ] . thus it cannot be mukhya main meaning of sandhya . So Sandya is actually name of Narayana . The time asscociated with the dhyana of Narayana is mainly more important due to the association itself
sandhya means abhivadan and stuti .
Only Narayana is worthy of stuti through the kriya at the appropriate time . Thus the stuti ie vandana of the Lord named sandhya is known as Sandhyavandana .
As lord and his rupas are same along with gayatri the rupas prayed by Narayanastakshar etc ar also known as sandhya . [sandhyamupaseet , those who do upasana of sandhya infact do upasana of Bramha those sandhya is also Bramha ]
as in the parts of sandhya other devatas are also prayed , as in achman , marjana , digupasthana , but just as clouds rain and rain water reach ocean so do all the prayers to different deities actually reach the Lord keshava as present in hearts of these devatas . sandhya is in toto prayer to Narayana only . Narayana by the name sandhya is being upasya through , atmahuti ,. ppapurush visarjan , anganyasa , karnyasa , and through Gayatri namely Narayana [the sandhya ]. ,whose vandana is Sandhya vandana

WHY SHOULD WE DO SANDHYAVANDANE ?
THERE ARE SO MANY GAYATRIS ,NARSIMHA GAYATRI ,VISHNU GAYATRI VAMAN BRAMHA GAYATRI VYASA GAYATRI ETC ETC WHY ONLY VISHWAMITRA GAYATRI .
THE IMPORTANCE IS IN CHANDAS GAYATRI OR MANTRA GAYATRI OR ONLY IN VISHWAMITRA GAYATRI .
WHY DASHA PRANAV GAYATRI IS NOT USED IN SANDHYA DHYANA WHY ONLY IN PRANAYAMA ?
VISHWAMITRA GAYATRI IS ACTUALLY VYAHRUTI +GAYATRI YET IT IS THE ONE USED IN SSANDHYA AS GAYATRI ?
FOR DISCUSSION SAKE LEARNED CAN CONTRIBUTE !

Acharya,
I started looking for points which connect Sandhya Vandana, Importance provided to Water and Surya Arghya. The points I found are as below.
In Vedic times, Sandhyavandana was an established form of Ishwar-upasana ( worshiping of god) in which Vaidikas (believers of Vedas) worshiped Ishwar in the form of Surya at the conjunction of day and night. They offered arghya (water as an offering) to both the rising as well as the setting sun
Since it rises and sets every day, the sun became a symbol of resurrection and death. The rhythm of life is dictated by water. The course of the sun was likened with the cycle of life, where its different positions corresponded to the various stages of life.
In Hindu traditions, too, the concept of Trikal Surya or the three forms of the sun was well established. Obviously, its three forms related to the three aspects of the sun at various intervals, i.e., morning, noon and evening. Quite often these three forms have been referred to as Vishnu, Bramha, and Rudra respectively.
In Vedic form he is known by the names of Savitra, Pushan, Mitra, Tripada, Vishnu and Usas etc, whereas Puranas describe him as Ravi, Bhaskar,Divakar, Prabhakar, Arka, Aditya and Rashmivat etc
The propitiation of the Sun God demands offering of arghya or water sanctified by recitation of the Gayatri mantra.
Water represents the “non-manifested substratum from which all manifestations derive” and is considered by Hindus to be a purifier, life-giver, and destroyer of evil.[Dr. Uma Mysorekar, Hindu Temple Society of North America]
The Arghya drives the demons who obstruct the path of the rising sun. Lust, anger and greed are the demons who obstruct the intellect from rising up (the intellect is the sun).
The Vedic declaration says that water offered to Sun in the evening converts the drops of water to stones that cause death to the demons. For humans, demons are like all sicknesses like typhoid TB, pneumonia etc.
When a devotee takes water in his hands while standing in front of or facing the sun and
drops water on the ground the rising direct Sunʼs rays fall from the head to feet of the devotee in a uniform flow. This way water heated by Sunʼs rays and its colors penetrates every part of the body. This is the reason why the Vedas direct the devotee to offer water when the Sun is about to rise or set.
There is story behind this offering of Arghya to Surya :
Mandeha’s were powerful Asuraas (demons) and they are devoted to Sri Brahma. They got a boon from Him that even if they die one day they should be born the next day. They were trying to consume the Sun God himself as a result of these Arghyas; Whenever they were killed, because of Brahma’s blessings they are born the next day. It is believed this process goes on even now. In order to kill these Asuraas and to protect the Sun God for illuminating all of us, we have to offer three Arghyas on each occassion. Three Arghyas are offered as follows: the first one is to destroy the Asuraas’ vechicle, the second to destroy their weapons and the third to kill them. This story has been explained in Vishnu Purana of 8th chapter.
Humble Regards
Hari

Sandhya vandanam encompasses important kriya of dhyana . Vishnu dhyana is very important upasana . Pranayama when done sagarbha is dhyana .
Why Sadhyavandanam ? it is the way to remember Lord !
why should we remember Lord when We have lot many other works to do ?
Important charachteristic of a sajjan is to always remember and be grateful to those who do grace [ Upakaara ] to them . God in the begining of the universe saw many a soul covered by the natural linga deha [skin over grains] . Owing to which Soul was incapable of enjoying its own bliss . In order to give bliss tp soul by wearing off the skin , he created UNIVERSE and brought all the soul into srujya avastha This is Creation Srishti . We remember this by the uttering the word ” SAVITU”
After the creation Srishti He engaged in the act of giving knowledge to the Soul by grinding him in SAMSAARA [ grinding helps wear off the skin after prolonged soaking in water ] . As Soul is brought into the creation HE GOD looks after the soul by feeding and giving the means to live .
This upakaara is remembered by the word ‘ BHARGA ” one who does ‘bharan poshan ‘
He sustains this creation by being within it and supporting it from outside as well[ To give us a stable space to engage in our activities ] , Thus he sports inside and outside and is known as ‘ DEVA”
As he is the greatest among all the DEV he is ‘ VARENYAM’
Finally why all this ? ALL this he does to wear off the Skin which gets peeled off due to vairagya and complete realisation of LORD [ ling deha bhanga ] to give bliss MOKSHA . This we remember by
‘”Dhi yo yo nah prachodayat ” because it is he who gives us this knowledge of realisation by revealing himself to US .

Vishwamitra [ Vishwa =world mitra = friend ]
It was Vishwamitra who first saw the GAYATRI and hence Gayatri is known as’ MAITRA ‘
Vedas say it is only by MAITRA one becomes BRAMHIN. So in order to gain the status of DWIJ MAITRA is neccessary . GAYATRI [ gayan Trayate ] one which when sung protects , sustains , saves and preserves . Bramhanatva is preserved by MAITRA . Thus only Vishwamitra Gayatri is used in Sandhyavandane . Before advent of VIshwamitra Bramha Gayatri was prominent ,
If one fails to do Sandhayavandane consecutively for three days , one ceases to be a BRAMHIN.
for such a person again upanayan samskaara is neccessary to regain Bramhanatva . Surapana [ drinking alcohol immediately ]relives one off BRAMHANATVA . punahasamsakaara is necessary .
.
Cleansing of body is necessary to start off any activity like japa anushthana . This is obtained by 24000 gayatri . If not done in life time then person is not eligible for any activity like shraddha , yagnya , upavasa or upasana .
Gayatri is foremost in cleansing the body off the sins . Morning Gayatri cleanses one off sins during previous night . Afternoon Gayatri cleanses sins done during day . and evening Gayatri cleanses sins during noon .
What type sins are cleansed , ‘diva shayana , bramhahatya , abhakshya bhakshan , agamya gaman etc . ‘ The mechanism of cleansing sins is in built by achamana ,marjana ,jalabhimantran , atmahuti . papa purusha visarjan ,digbandhan, aasan shuddhi , Bhutochatan, nyasa , japa arghya and digupasthana and abhivadanam which are part of Sandhyanavandanam .
These sins get cleansed if these happen on account of ignorance when done with knowledge such sins dont get washed off . one has to pay for it in subsequent janmas and this janma also .
A clean mind obtained by Gayatri is main instrument for DHYANA of the LORD . This DHYANA is gateway to MOKSHA . So Dhyana rupi Sandhyavandane is NITYA Karma and UPASANA . because Lord is known by VEDAS . Sandhyavandanam is a kind of VEADAADHYAYAN carried out by BRAMHINS in their day today life .Because Gayatri is essence of ALL VEDAS .

Guruji ,
In one of your discussion you said all non Hindus are born as Hindus is their nest Janam
Firstly during time of Mahabaratha and Ramayana or Much earlier were there only Hindus?? Did there exist other religion even at that time like Christianity or Muslim. Apart from India and the Asian counterparts where there life in any other part of the world with different religion at that time!!
If they didn’t how come suddenly these religions came up and strongly influenced people
Do Jesus and Allah exist? Are they the incarnation of Lord Vishnu or they are just depicted man made.
What is the impact of being born as a non Hindu in next Janam. Is it a good outcome or bad?
How do the non Hindus get blessed if they are not saying prayers from our Vedas or Praying to Lord Vishnu? Maybe from their previous Janam good deeds they get blessed but If that’s the case than why did they be born as non Hindus and to be blessed and make lord happy even now in this Janam continuous service must be done To Lord Vishnu… but they are still blessed as we can see that!! How is this?
And by seeing the changes in the world the majority of population are non hindus…Did so many people sin to be one??
And ancient time there wasn’t so much population than from where did it come now.I mean in the previous Janam they must have been there to be born now. Or probably plants and animals are born as humans Or they are new souls ?
How does a man remain a brahmin in next janam only by sadhana?

before the dawn of dwapar yuga only Vishnu was prayed everywhere , In dwapar other deities were being prayed , slowly kapaliks came into existence . for the first time brihaspati came as charvak .nastik vada . Shakuni was nastik .When many kshatriyas were killed , after pandavas , mletchs became powerful . they started occupying the lands . At this time Rakshasa were born directly to certain woman without being married , these men started having green beards and ruled eastern parts of the world . slowly a havoc were unleashed and hindu ways of life got destroyed in those regions .
Here In India , mahapadma in the lineage if Jarasandha who was born to shudra women occupied the throne of Magadh . He killed all the kshatriyas as he hated them .
At the same time , Siddharth born in the lineage of ikshvaku [ Sriram] dynasty propagated Buddhism . Buddhism took a variety of forms of aneeshwar religions . slowly the rulers of buddhist and mletch kingdoms intermixed and formed a new religion these encompassed yavan mletch bouddha and kirat ways of life to appease the rulers . Thus other religions were spread .
The propagators of these were essentially influenced by kali . because except VISHNU there is nO GOD and praying others will not give any Moksha . But those who dont pray Vishnu , if they perform charities or tapas , they will be given enormous wealth world and then they go to hell . Knowing this rule most of the religions have many charities ingrained in their system without praying Vishnu . this ensured wealth and faith in the system .
Some good people are also born in other religions as a result of curse or some extreme karma . These come back to mainstream by serving bramhins or cow or tualsi . In this world many a kings of other religions always and always kept bramhin ministers because they had a sense of peace and feeling of divine .
Those bramhins who are given to cruelty and sins lose their bramhin status forever .
sandhyavandan is only tool to reamain a bramhin .

Thank you Guruji
I didn’t know about all this and has been a good valuable information for me!!!
Well what about ladies? How do ladies be born IN Brahmin family next Janam? They dont do sandhya vandan right!!
And why is it said that girls are not to say any prayer or mantra beginning with Aum…Can ladies chant Aum? ..Cause when we do pranayama we always chant with aum!!
Posted by chiraan on 18/11/2009 at 01:32
LADIES should do pranayan with sreem /
God has created woman with luck ingrained , They get half the punya just by being a wife . she shares half punya and has no share in sins of husband on the contrary husband shares her sins .
This rules keeps the woman have same journey as her husband reuniting her in every janma . so if husband is born bramhin , due to his punya so is his wife .
Posted by s on 18/11/2009 at 05:19
Namaste Chiraan, In a scenario where husband and wife dies at the same time as per above rule wife will accumulate more punya than her husband , dont the wife gets good janma than husband?
Posted by chiraan on 18/11/2009 at 11:10
what is meant by good janma?
Posted by s on 18/11/2009 at 11:15
Namaste Chiraanji,
i mean a better life as a result of more punya ?
Posted by chiraan on 18/11/2009 at 11:20
yes it is seen when a a girl is born in rich family and marries a poor person .
Posted by s on 18/11/2009 at 13:56
Namaste Chiraanji, Will there be moksha prapti for wife sooner than her husband ? Also i would like to know if there is any shastra to interpret the dreams we get? and get rid of the bad dreams?
Posted by chiraan on 18/11/2009 at 14:16
god does not give struggle to woman to get Moksh . As husband gets moksha wife automatically becomes eligible . together the soul mates go to moksha , while 10000 births of sanyasi is required get eligibility for moksha , all these while wife enjoys in higher realms and man toils as sanyasi .

DIGBANDHAN IS NECCESSARY PART OF sANDHYAVANDANAM ,
as one sits for positive karma , negative elements aasuri shakti attacks him from all the directions to either snatch his punya or create vighna . This is avoided by making a digbandhan , Digbandhan stops asuras from 10 directions to run away and keep clean th surroundings for a good mental balanace and preparation for hari sanndihi ,.
Use of mantras like ‘phat ‘ ‘aushat ‘ hum’ gives digbandhan . There is always NARSIMHAAGNI in the palm of the sadhak ,. Whenone clapas this agni is furiated . this propelled in 10 directions stops asuras . when they still try to penentrate , the a tweet by rubbing the middle finger with the thumb , the sound gives rise to Vayu which enhances this agni to kill all the rakshasas .
This is digbandhan

PRANAYAAM if carried out such that there is mantrochcharan in Kumbhak it is sagrabha pranayam .
Gayatri uchcharan during kumbhak is very important part of Sandhyavandanam .
Om [ omkaar ] with sapta vyahruti gayatri and shiras form the mantra .
\OM BHU OM BHUVA OMSVAH OM MAHA OM JANAH OM TAPAH OM SATYAM OM TATASAVITURVARENYAM BHARGO DEVASYA DHIMAHI DHIYOYONAH PRACHODAYAT
AAPOJYOTI RASOAMRUTAM BRAMHA BHURBHUVASWAROM
THIS GAYATRI MANTRA HAS TO BE RECITED THRICE IN KUMBHAK .
IF USING OTHER MANTRAS , 3 6 9 12 TIMES USAGE OF MANTRA IN PRANAYAM IS ALSO RECOMMENDED .
harITA SMRUTI SAYS 28 TIMES IS BETTER AND 12 TIMES IS MEDIUM 6 IS ADHAM
mADHVACHARYA RECOMMENDS 24 TIMES OR 12 TIMES /
RECHAKA PURAKA KUMBHAKA SHOULD BE THE ORDER OF PRANAYAMA . THIS GIVES SHUDDHI .EKAGRATA AND HEALTH ,.
RECHAKA SHOULD BE 16 MATRAS , ONE MATRA IS TIME TAKEN TO SAY AN ALPHABET .
PURAKA SHOULD BE TWICE IE 32 MATRAS
KUMBHAKA SHOULD BE 64 MATRAS .
TANTRA SAYS . IN KUMBHAKA HARI AND VAYU SOULD BE REMEMBERED .
PRANAYAM AS PER AGNI PURANA IS STOPPING THE PRANA RUPI VAYU . BUT IN REALITY IT IS REMEMBERING PRANA IR VAYUDEV WHO IS REGULATED BY VISHNU . STOPPING BOTH OF THEM IN HRUDAYA IS STABILISING GOD IN OUR HEART

In mahabharata interesting to note is the double roles being enacted .
Yudhisthir and Vidur [ both avataras of yama]
Durvasa and Ashwaththama [ both rudra ]
Arjun and Balrama [ both sesha ]
Hanuman and Bheemsen
Krishna Vedvyasa Parshuraama [ Narayana]
Yudhisthir was gambling and instrumental for the the Adharma and as VIDUR he was protesting the same .
Durvasa gave progeny to Pandu and as Ashwaththama killed the progeny of Pandavas .
Arjun opposed Kauravas and as Balarama was a admirer of Duryodhan .
Bheemsen went to Bring Saugandhika ,Hanumaan threw his tail to curtail .
Krishna chides Dhritarashtra and as Vedvyasa consoles him .
Krishna chooses Arjun and as parshuraam teaches Karna .
Strange are the ways of SRIHARI one cannot decipher it with human intellect .
